The Committee

Alt_Scott McKenzie 2013 North Island Champion1

The committee is elected each year by members at the AGM during the Nationals. Following the constitution, it manages the affairs of the class on behalf of all members. There is an elected position for each of the main roles e.g. sailing, technical, training, development, teams etc and the committee operates by these elected members coming together about six times per year, with the minutes being published. So the committee is not an “executive”, there are no reporting structures and almost all decisions are reached by consensus.

is a member at Trearddur Bay Sailing Club on Anglesey and is a keen “social” sailor! Sharon has 2 sons, one who has just transitioned from the Optimist to a 420 and a 10 year old who’s just starting his Optimist sailing journey. Before taking the role of IOCA Chair in August 2017 she had run the Sailing Training in Trearddur for over 150 sailors! As Chair Sharon is keen to focus on ensuring that the Class has a solid and strong foundation to enable it to deliver quality training, events and opportunities for all whilst developing a culture that fosters fun, enjoyment and healthy competition.

“IOCA is a group of parents coming together with a single aim; the sailors! We look forward to welcoming you to our family”

Victor Brellisford

Vice Chair
Appointed 2015

Victor is from Royal Corinthian YC in Burnham (home of the Corinthian Otters).  He has two enthusiastic sailing daughters one racing a 29er and the other a keen Optimist sailor.

He was on the Committee for three years as IOCA Technical Officer and coordinated the IOCA stand at RYA Dinghy Show for the past two years.

As Vice Chair he is now focussing on helping to implement IOCA’s 5 year plan.  He is a good place to start if you have any questions, ideas or comments to make about IOCA.

Victor says:

“IOCA thrives because parents work together.  If you volunteer – even just for a day – it’s amazing who you meet and it’s great fun to join the team.”
