Firstly Happy New Year to you all and welcome to the 2017 season. Hopefully you’ve all made it to the new look website and have seen the full set of events are now in the calendar giving a mix of inland and sea and North and South. As well as the IOCA main events we are also running the Easter Egg as per previous years at Grafham targeted at those who are not travelling to the European events. We are currently in the process of finalising the MEIs and once we have these in place will be opening up the entry for the initial events – intent is end of Jan / beginning Feb. One of my key areas of focus this year is to create a great environment for the Regatta fleet and would really welcome ideas as to how we could improve this (and indeed volunteers to help make it happen). Some of the ideas we were putting in place at the end of the season were: Focus on short sharp races aiming for at least 10 over the weekend; coming in at lunch; treats on the water and depending on the time o f year providing free soup or ice cream for the competitors at lunch – I’m sure there are a lot more! The intention is also to have a Regatta fleet at each of the venues to give the opportunity for the younger siblings and younger sailors to participate and experience an event in a save and friendly environment.
In order to make all this happen we very much rely on volunteers and in particular I’m looking for people to act as the event co-ordinator. This really isn’t as demanding as it seems as there is a fantastic support team led by John and others taking care of safety, prizes, race management, etc. For me it has also been very rewarding to see so many happy faces at the end of the day. If you could let me know as soon as possible – especially for the for the Springs in Torbay / Paignton – that would be much appreciated. if you’re interested could you drop me an email firstname.lastname@example.org and I’m more than happy to talk this through with you.
All the best
