The committee has held discussions with both Plas Heli and RYA Cymru regarding how/if we can hold the Late Summer Championships in Pwllheli in light of the current Welsh Government Guidelines. Whilst we did not get the clarity we were hoping for yesterday we are pleased to say that both Plas Heli and RYA Cymru have given us their support and to enable us to hold an event in Pwllheli between 29th – 31st August 2020. However, due to current Welsh Government Guidelines, we are not able to host the event as we usually would; entries need to be limited and the format changed to ensure that we stay within current Welsh Guidelines. The planned format has the support of Plas Heli and RYA Cymru and enables as many sailors as we can to have the opportunity to attend and race.
Sailors will be required to enter one of the following fleets:
2. Boys (IOCA age 11 and under)
3. Boys (IOCA age 12)
4. Boys (IOCA age 13 and above)
Entry will be limited to 25 sailors per fleet and entries should be made on the correct event webpage.
Due to restrictions on numbers entry will initially open for those sailors who had a 2019 National Ranking. If any fleets are oversubscribed places will be allocated based on 2019 ranking. Any sailors who did not receive a 2019 National Ranking can express an interest in attending the event by emailing Admin@optimist.org.uk and email@example.com. These will be allocated, if spaces are available, on a first come first served basis..
Entry Open Time
Entry will open at 12.30pm on Saturday 1st August 2020 for those sailors with a 2019 Ranking and will close at midnight on Tuesday 4th August 2020. Once entry has closed sailors’ places will be confirmed based on numbers/expressions of interest for each fleet. Payment will not become due until a sailors entry has been confirmed by IOCA.
Covid protocols will require that interaction between sailors and Official Safety Fleet vessels is very limited. Support boats (outside the Official Safety Fleet) will not be permitted.
PLEASE NOTE: whilst we are fully committed to run the event we cannot guarantee it will take place, should government guidance change. Please bear this in mind when booking accommodation in the local area.
We are planning to host 2 days pre-event training ahead of the event; further details will be published on the event website
PLEASE NOTE: any sailors attending Lake Garda in August will not be able to attend the Late Summers should a quarantine situation arise from any of the countries visited on the trip. Likewise any sailors who have been on holiday outside of the UK and have to quarantine upon return to the UK will not be able to attend if they are still within the quarantine period when the event starts.
